Member News

Member Louise Crozier provides comments about the completion of the Celiacpegs.org website project:
Current literature suggests a significant lack of provider knowledge of celiac disease (CD) and gluten-free diet (GFD), as well as a lack of comprehensive care, may negatively affect provider management and care of adult patients with CD. Poor dietary management of CD, in addition to the lack of coordinated and comprehensive care, can lead to daily symptoms, significant co-morbid conditions and decreased quality-of-life in patients with CD. There is an increased need for improving awareness, knowledge, and accessible treatment guidelines for providers who manage the care of adult patients with CD.
The emphasis of the celiacpegs.org project has been on the development of a web-based teaching module program to assist gastroenterology specialists and primary care in the management of adult patients with CD.  Please explore the website and provide feedback at louisecrozier@live.com.
Dr. Ahmed El-Sohemy recently published a study on the prevalance of undiagnosed celiac cases in Toronto.  Read further details and commentary provided by some of our members.
Dr. Barry Kaufman is a Senior Physician at Atlantic Gastroenterology and its Celiac Center, which encourages a regional support group.  Dr. Kaufman and his staff are principal investigators of a study to assess whether Vedolizumab can block enteritis associated with gluten challenge in patients previously in histologic remission on a gluten free diet.
